BRM/Biomere-Biomedical Research Models

Animal Models

Biomedical Research Models, Inc. has unique expertise in the development, production, and distribution of Proprietary Animal Models of Human Disease.

BRM’s animal models facilitate the study of the pathogenesis and complications of diseases, because they permit the evaluation of treatment protocols that are not immediately feasible or ethical in human patients.

They provide populations of genetically uniform subjects that can be maintained under environmentally controlled conditions. Hence, new pharmaceutical agents, dietary regimens etc. can first be tested in animals, to evaluate potential toxicity and therapeutic benefit prior to human application.

If one assumes that all animal models have inherent limitations, then the use of multiple experimental models represents a useful strategy for evaluating new therapeutic modalities for the study of disease and it's complications. Our animal models are easily adapted for the testing of compounds for a multitude of applications.

BBDP/Wor rat (Type I Diabetic: Spontaneous)

These animal models are usually used for the studies of Spontaneous Type I (diabetes mellitus and Hashimoto's thyroiditis) and diabetic complications.

BBDR/Wor rat (Type I Diabetic: Induced) Diabetic Resistant (DR) controls for DP rats.

This animal is also a model of viral induced diabetes (Science 254:1010) and collagen induced arthritis (J. Exp.Med. 172:1331)

BBZDR/Wor rat (Type II Diabetic)

The BBZDR/Wor rats are animal models of Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM), insulin resistance, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetic vascular complications.
