Nude Rats - WAG rnu/rnu rats

BRM produces the WAG rnu/rnu rats in virus-antibody free (VAF) facilities.

The WAG rnu/rnu rats are phenotypically hairless with possible fine-sparse hair growth.

General usage for the model is immunology-based research. Transplant adoption studies have used these WAG rnu/rnu models.

Origin:

WAG/Cpb rats obtained by the Diabetes Division at UMMS in 1991 From: Dr. P. de Very, head of Central Animal Laboratory Rijksinstituut Voor Volksgezondheid en Milieuhygiene The Netherlands

Origin of Nude Rats

The rnu gene was obtained from Carahalton , UK (RT1c) and backcrossed into WAG/CPB for about 12 generations as of October 1991. At that time, there was still heterozygosity in the RT7 locus.

WAG rnu/rnu rats were bred by the Diabetes Division of the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

First nude rats (3 male and 4 female) provided by Dennis Guberski to Barbara Whalen June 1995.
